Soundproofing solutions - Acoustic Drywall
Acoustic drywall is a specialized gypsum board designed to reduce sound transmission and improve privacy compared to standard drywall. Sound performance is measured using STC (Sound Transmission Class) in laboratory conditions and ASTC (Apparent Sound Transmission Class) in real-world buildings, which accounts for sound traveling through surrounding structures. The **Ontario Building Code requires separating assemblies between dwelling units to achieve a minimum ASTC rating of 47. Proper installation—including insulation, resilient channels, and acoustic sealing—is essential to maintain sound control and reduce noise traveling through walls, ceilings, and other flanking paths.
